What is the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

How Digital Health Infrastructure Benefits Citizens

For the average Indian, ABDM translates into tangible improvements in healthcare access and quality. Patients can create their ABHA number through a simple mobile app or website, linking their phone number and basic details. Once created, this becomes their permanent health identity.

When visiting a doctor, patients can share their ABHA number to grant access to previous consultations, prescriptions, lab reports, and diagnostic images stored in their digital health record. This continuity of information is particularly valuable for individuals with chronic conditions like diabetes or hypertension who require long-term monitoring.

The system also facilitates telemedicine consultations, allowing doctors to access patient histories remotely and write digital prescriptions that can be filled at any registered pharmacy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this infrastructure proved invaluable in maintaining healthcare continuity while minimizing physical contact.

Privacy and Security Considerations
